Two Routers: Cascade, Bridge or Access Point?

I am running two routers simultaneously, with the first router being used around the house and the second router connected to a VPN via L2TP. My sole purpose for the VPN is to connect to region protected streaming media like BBC, Roku and Netflix and my question is this:

If the primary purpose of the second router is to stream media behind a VPN which method do I need to use to get the fastest connection, cascade or bridged or something else?

I would run the 2 routers as cascading which should isolate the secondary network.
