Hey all,
As of about 2 weeks ago, I completed my first build, aided by a more experienced builder and the machine has been running perfectly, up until last night, where it suddenly shut off and refused to come back on again. After unplugging and turning the PSU off, then restoring power to the PC after about 5 minutes, the CPU fan and superficial LEDs came on for about half a second before shutting off again. After this happens, pressing the power button does nothing. I have noticed in the half a second that it is on for, a red light on the Motherboard lights up just below the CPU. I saw a post on the forums that indicated that it may have been one of the LED fans included with the case so I disconnected these one by one and it made no difference. Does this sound like a PSU issue? As ive seen it mentioned quite a few times that in most cases, its the PSU that needs replacing.

Specs are as follows:

Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0
AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core 4.0 Ghz
8GB HyperX Black RAM
XFX R7850 Black Edition Double Dissipation 2GB DDR5
WD Caviar Blue 500GB SATAIII Hard Drive
500W EVGA Bronze PSU
Asus CDRW Optical Drive

I think thats everything?
Im in desperate need of a fix here, any information would be much appreciated

Thank you in advance

Most Asus boards have a Led.
It states power is good to the board.
Red by default means danger or something is wrong.

Often indicating as said a short of the mobo or a part of it, or the Psu is at fault.

If push comes to shove, remove the mobo from the case.

You should try only the Psu connected, checking all the required power feeds from the Psu are fitted to the board correctly.
The cpu is fitted, and at least on stick of memory.

If it works, add the rest of your memory sticks one at a time and test.
Small steps and you will find the problem.
If all else fails, presume a problem with the Psu.

Did you overclock? If so it may have been fine at first and then not after stretching its legs. Turn off the power and remove the battery from the motherboard. Reinstall battery, plug it back in and try......good luck

Ahh further update - ive got the PC to turn on, it seems to be running fine, all fans are spinning, CPU is heating up etc, but theres no signal being given to the screen? tested the screen using my laptop and it works perfectly, but through HDMI to the PC and it tells me there is no signal and goes into a perma - standby
