It’s not like we export a lot of manufacturered goods anymore
Actually, the US is still the second-highest exporter of manufactured goods in the world, and the second-highest exporter overall, by value.
Im honestly amazed at how stupid the so called ¨standard¨ system is. Boiling is 212 and freezing is 32 instead of 100 and 0. We wouldn't need all these weird numbers and stuff. Everything in metric is by 10s
On the other hand, if you look at that in terms of outdoor air temperatures, a range of 0 to 100F will tend to cover the most common temperature ranges across most of the US. And places human body temperature around 100 as well.
And of course, while basing Centigrade off the freezing and boiling point of water under certain conditions might be reasonable, that still results in the lowest possible temperature being around −273.15 degrees, which makes the scale just as arbitrary as the −459.67 degrees for Fahrenheit.
The metric system does make for simpler conversions, though really, it ultimately doesn't matter that much. It's used in the US where it makes the most sense, like in scientific fields, but it arguably wouldn't be worth the expense and potential confusion resulting from converting things like street signs, thermometers, and so on over to metric at this point. It may happen eventually, but there's not really any rush.
