Hi, I asked for help a month or two ago and I got help from the people on here (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3721082/build-buy-gaming.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=forum_email&utm_campaign=EPR-8809) but I went to check out the parts recently from the list I was sent and the video card costs a lot more than previously stated. I was waiting for a refund for a PC i recently bought that was damaged and didn't work as described, I recently just got my money back so I'm going to get parts to try and build my first PC.
I have £800 to spend on a PC and this is the list I previously got sent. I don't need a keyboard in the pricing this time but I need 16GB of RAM.

The video card doesn't show a list of prices on part picker and when I manually search it is a lot more expensive than stated on the list.

It would be great if anyone could help me with a build. I like playing total war games, dota 2, space engineers and shooters, AAA if possible.

Edit- An AMD PC would be preferred.

I would go with something like this. It will handle any AAA game at high settings. You might want to consider getting a RX 580 over the 1060. They are similar in performance, but the 580 can take advantage of a free sync monitor where gsync monitors are very expensive. The 580 will cost about $20 more than the 1060 as their prices have dropped a lot.

So I would need to get a specific monitor to match the graphics card? Could I use a basic monitor I already have in the mean time and save to upgrade?

That system is designed for 1080p/60fps gaming. So if you have a 1080p/60hz monitor it will be fine. But you may want to consider getting a better monitor down the road and this is why I would go with the RX 580. If you get the 580 then you can buy a free sync monitor for fairly cheap. Free sync matches the refresh rate of the monitor to the fps of the card. What that means is that you get very smooth gameplay with no scree tearing while still limiting input lag.

I quickly read up on free sync and g sync and they seem to do the same thing, why do you think amd is better?

I also just checked the monitor prices and there's a huge difference!

Would you be able to make a new PC build with an equivalent CPU like the RX 580?

I think AMD would be a lot better for my first build considering the price difference, if it'll still run my games I'll be happy with that.

If you want to save a little money , you could stick with the i5 8400 build above which is great anyway.
That 4gb 580 though is a great buy at that price.

What will the performance of this be like? Will it run most new games? Is this an AMD equivalent of feelinfroggy777's build?

The 580 is the 1060s equivalent , the 8gb is actually proving, be a stronger performer in a lot of,newer titles now amd have got their drivers up to scratch.

That is the 4gb model I listed simply because of the price.
It does have half the vram but at 1080p I consider that a non issue personally.

The ryzen is slightly worse at straight gaming & slight better at productivity.

Both builds will run pretty much any game at high settings without an issue.

Mix & match the builds a bit if you like , I have no issue with either processor.

If you are considering a freesync monitor in the future I would veer towards the rx 580 though without a doubt.

Would you be able to do a build with the 8GB version just as a price comparison?
When I try to put together what you guys do I get a lot more expensive versions of the parts and I can't seem to find what you guys put together.

The issue is the cheapest 8gb version is £70 & that will get you 5% more performance at best.

Which his the exact reason I linked the 4gb card because at the minute that's selling at rrp whereas everything else is still overpriced.

People are telling me the 1060 is better and I should get that, what do you think?

The 1060 6gb is maybe slightly better than the 580 4gb, it's just not anywhere approaching £50 better though.

Vice versa Id class the 580 8gb as better than a 1060 6gb but once again not really £30 better.

It depends on what you consider value for money.

For under £190 that 580 is still a very very good 1080p card & at that price they will sell out fast.

Will I be able to run all the games that are out just now? That's what I'm worried about, buying it and saving some money but it doesn't run games.

I would not go with the 1600. The 8400 just has too much of a lead for gaming. The 2600 closes the gap enough to make it a good buy though.

If this were my system, I would buy the rig with the 8400 and pair it with the 580. If you don't have enough for the 8gb, then go for the 4gb. The 4gb 580 is a really good price. I don't think I have seen it that low.

Just take feelinfroggys build , edit & swap the gpu's.

Found a youtube vid with 8gb vs 4gb comparison.

Between 2 & 4%.

https://youtu.be/UT7at2ufEac

Ignore the actual fps,the vid is from over a year ago.

Game updates & amd driver optimisation has added up to a 20% performance Increase in some titles since then.

I've built with both 4gb & 8gb cards & my results were identical (currently still running a 580 pulse now)
