Ultimate Gaming Setup Money No Issue

So I want to build the ultimate gaming pc. I have found some components and done research but I'm not really sure where to go from here. I have to confess I know very little (any more) about building high-end water-cooled over-clocked rigs in the grand scheme of things.

Here's what I got so far:

The tower is a "Cooler Master Cosmos II Full Tower Case"

The motherboard will be "Asus Desktop Motherboard RAMPAGE III EXTREME i7"

The CPU will be an "Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition"

The video card will be a "EVGA GeForce GTX690 Signature"


From here I get a little lost. What would be the best/fastest RAM. What type of solid state HD should I hook up. Coolant systems etc?

I want the most up to date gaming rig I can build while trying to stay around the 5k mark (that's before the 3x "Acer GD235HZbid Widescreen 23.6" 3D LCD" monitors).

5k what currency? Your on the right lines though if your after bragging rights though get 2 of the 690's and SLi them..... beaware though its purely braging rights your gaming experience won't really be much better than some guy that stuck the same GPU setup with a normal i7 and a high end z77 socket 1155 board. SSD's and HDD's get the best and largest SSD you can afford and then a 2TB HDD for storage heck if you want to brag get 2 2TB for storage and RAID them for lightening fast porn storage. RAM toss in 16GB of the fastest rated stuff you can find if you want bragging rights ensure it has lurid and ludicrous heatsinks. As to cooling watercooling you need to talk to somebody who knows about custom loops.

Downside of this? Your gaming experience will not be any better than some guy with a normal i7 (overclocked) a good socket 1155 board and a pair of GTX 680's...... just you will have spent more.

That weighs in at about $4800 custom watercooling will add more to the cost

I can't say enough though your tossing money down the crapper. You would game just as well on a single 690 (or dual 680) using an Ivybridge i7 on a z77 socket 1155 motherboard..... for nearly $2000 less.

Total - $2582 again custom watercooling will add to cost though I would myself just use air toss a $50 cooler on the CPU and still get a good OC.

$2300 less still going to utterly max out anything at uber high frame rates, still has significant bragging rights. To you sat at the keyboard playing the game of your choice there won't be a discernable difference between this and the other build. To your wallet there will be though

Decided to finally go with:

Case: Silverstone Temjin TJ11 as it's got enough space to do what needs to be done, with ample extra for later upgrades.

Mobo: Rampage IV Extreme - Watercooled with both EK north / south blocks on their own loop with the CPU.

CPU: Intel i7 3970X Six Core 3.5Ghz 15Mb Cache (Stock) - Will have a EK Water Block EK-Supremacy-Nickel

GPU: 2x EVGA Signature edition GTX Titans with again EK Water Blocks same transparent with Nickel look, running in Sli

Good choice with the TJ11, you can fit anything with that beast. As far as your cards go get two or three (or four ) hydro copper Titan sooner or later. As far as your mother board goes get the ASRock X79 Extreme11 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157327), it blows everything out of the water.

As far as power goes, get the "EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified Power Supply" (http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=120-PG-1500-XR)

If money isn't an issue, than why not go for the best!

As far as your storage goes you should be fine, considering you have the TJ11 you can throw in another SSD in there anytime you want. Your cooling kit should be fine, ask me any questions you want about it as I believe I technically earnt my PhD in water cooling building some rigs for my friends.

You'll probably laugh but so far the only monitor I've ordered and received is a 27" Asus VG278H 3D Black LED HD Monitor 1920x1080, 50K:1 300cd/m² 2ms.. I just liked it bc it came with built-in Nvidia 3D Vision 2 IR emitter and it looks dope as hell. Check out the very listing where I bought it from...

Not a bad choice, congrats on your new pc man! It's always exciting getting something that blows everything out of the water . I was actually looking at an asus monitor fairly similar but with 2ms. I too am preparing to make a huge gaming rig, unfortunately not until the end of this year though at it's earliest. Anyway enjoy that sweet rig of yours and kick ass at whatever games you play!

Thanks for the warm wishes "ShindoSensei" - Much appreciated! I much like yourself had this extreme rig planned for well over a year. I am by no means "rolling in it" just been saving up and really wanted to create my dream geek set-up and wait rather than settle and buy something good'ish but not really what would make me proud/happy. I dont actually collect the rig itself though until this Saturday if I'm lucky (said I'd tip the tech well if he got it done by then but wasn't any guarantee, fingers crossed) failing that I'll have to wait until Tuesday after the Ester break n folks are back in the office/shops. I'm having it built over at YoYOTech in London bc it's not far from me and they really know what they're doing. I had been slowly researching all the components and watching "Linus Tech Tips" etc on YouTube plus reading every review I could get my hands/eyes on. I took my time and landed on every single component I wanted but finally it's all coming together now and I'm stoked obviously. I'll post some pics when I've got it sitting proudly on my desk in the next few days with any luck!

I'll be open to ideas or questions once it's all setup and everything connected. I'm sure I'll be spending more time at my desk X). And I need to meet some fellow Steam/Origin (think it's called) friends to play with online.. So far I've just pre-bought Arma 3 Delux something or other / BF3 / Pre-order BF4 / The new Simcity / Tomb Raider 2013 / maybe a few others but I forget. Just got everything primed for the arrival of the final beast!

The long-ass Easter holiday totally messed up delivery of the few remaining parts needed to finish the build. Collecting Friday, under 48hrs away now after 24hrs of testing before the shop will let me take her home.. So freaking excited! This monster is gonna ROCK! Just gotta improve dramatically so as not to be quite so embarrassing at FPSs. Hoping the mouse/keyboard combo won't be hard getting used too. Only ever played on console type controllers till now. Also ordered the "Leap" so looking forward to finding a way to incorporate that once they release it in May. Watched a few YouTube demos, looks redonkulas! Imagine hooking that up to an Oculus VR headset + optional head tracker. Gaming geekgasm 100% lol. Pics to come soon!!!
