I have a K7S5A V1.0 that I can't get any flash program to work on. I've
tried AMI DOS flash (tow of them) and AMI WinFlash.
None will work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Frank

Here's whats happening:
@the a prompt I get this when I execute this command in DOS:

a:\aminf341.exe
chipset type sis sis/sb
flash part winbond 49f002U_V3
error 2 file does not exist

And when I run WinFlash in win (xp pro sp2) winflash.exe immediately
crashes.

All thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Not sure I understand as there are no .bin files involved. In DOS the
flashing program does not appear to even find the rom chip so I don't
even get to the point of typing in the file name of the new bios to be
loaded.

It would be useful to know what the numbers are on the BIOS chip, and
what indication you have that the flash is not working.

Don't know what numbers are on the chip (didn't look yet) but each
flash try says it can find winbound. Been flashing chips since '96 and
never had this problem.
Will discharge the CMOS sometime today and try again.

Hi 😱)

Download here

bios and flash utility, unpack the bios on your hd, there is now a file
called: 030811.ROM that is the bias file and aminf341.exe this one is the
flash utility. Now you have to put this 2 files on a bootable disk and boot
from it, after your system finished booting from the bootdisk, enter:
aminf341 030811.ROM
That's it 😱)

Nah...that gives me the same error-

chipset type sis sis/sb
flash part winbond 49f002U_V3
error 2 file does not exist

I beginning to believe I have a bad ROM chip.

Hmm... try this:

example:
aminf341.exe 030811.rom (all typed in one line !!!) and then press enter

If you use a diskette, make sure all files are NOT write protected!

That's a typical flash command, one of three I've tried and none work.
Nothing will get into the rom chip. I think it's bad but fortunately
still working.

Maybe you give us a step by step guide how you do it.
And if you want, pls tell us the filenames for the flash utility, the
BIOS binary file and each of it's filesizes...
Maybe just do a DIR > file.txt on you diskette and send us the result.

There MUST be a way to do it

Actually I've lost all interest in solving this irritation. As I've been
flashing rom's for over 10 years now I'm pretty confident I know what
I'm doing. I now believe this is a bad chip and seeing as how it is
working I'll leave well enough alone.

I think that is an excellent decision. There are other fires out
there that need putting out.

However, when I had the same problem, I searched for an older version
of the flash program and it worked for me. Don't know why or care
why but it worked.

Well I tried three different flash programs (two dos and one win) and
the old ctrl+home on boot up deal.

Well I yanked the damn chip, put the contacts on a metal ruler for a few
mins, put the chip back in an flashed with the latest ECS bios. It
worked but when I have time I'll try the honey-x bios which is the one I
eventually want.
What a POS!
