I have an old Fujitsu 160 GB 2.5 inch mechanical drive that I salvaged from my broken laptop, and I want to use it as an external Hard Drive. I also bought an external case. But the drive is not showing up in My Computer section. I can feel the drive spinning.
I did some troubleshooting of my own. I connected my drive in my desktop internally through a sata port and it works fine. I even found it listed on my disk manager. It was accessible from My Computer as well. (I guess this indicates that the drive is fine.)
But whenever I try to use it as an external drive, it neither shows up in My Computer, nor is it listed in disk manager. Rather, whenever I connect it, I get a double beep tone on my speakers.
The enclosure specifications are:
• Interface: USB2.0: 480Mbps; SATA I: 1.5Gbps
• Casing Material: Aluminium
• LEDs: Yes
• Power Source: Bus-Powered
• AC Input: No
• DC Input: No
• Supported OS: Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7, MAC 9.x or above
• Emission (EMI): FCC, CE Mark, RoHS
I use Windows 7 ultimate 64bit OS. I've even tried to connect it to a 32bit OS, but the same problem persists.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.
Thank you.
