Hey everyone, I've been having some problems with my resolution as of last night. I was in the middle of playing a Civ 5 game with friends when the game froze up for me (no longer let me click inside of the game) and although my mouse was able to move freely, was then not able to click on anything on the desktop either. I waited about 10-15 minutes before Hard shutting it off because I could not figure out the problem. Afterwards, I booted up the PC as usual only to find that my resolution was all buggy. No big deal, I'll just re-install the graphics drivers for my GTS 450 (yeah I know its low class). Only problem is... that didn't fix it this time. I'm sort of a novice when it comes to this sort of stuff and I am at a complete loss as to what to do. My graphics card seems to be detected under Device Manager - Display adapters - (my card). But when I right-click the desktop and go to resolution in order to try and fix it, my main monitor is stuck with "Generic non PnP" and my display 2 is stuck with "Display device on: VGA" (I only have one monitor). Now, when I try to change my resolution on display #1, back to my normal 1920x1080, it gives me a black screen with a notice saying "Not optimum mode 1440x900 60hz". And then reverts to the pre-set 1024x768 resolution its working off of now. Is there any way to fix this? Is it my graphics card... or could it be my motherboard?

Thank you for any answers in advance! Sorry if I missed out on any technical terms.

Unfortunately, I just tried it all and no luck. I used DDU to uninstall it all, rebooted in safe mode, then I re-downloaded the nvidia drivers while using a clean install, rebooted once again and nothing. However, it does now boot in 1600x1200.I don't know if that means anything, but it is now defaulting to a higher resolution than before... Are there any settings I should have set on Nvidia control panel/Device Manager to try and see if that would help ?

I've deduced that it is a motherboard problem. During my last test of the graphics card (I did switch monitors), the game which was running smoothly suddenly stopped and froze. I assumed it was a graphics problem when all of my running application opened and began to glitch over eachother (a big nasty looking broken screen). I've got an unused GTX 560ti, so I'm hoping to buy a mobo/processor revolving around that now... 😛
