Hi there, I'm new to this forum.

I have an 8 years old HTPC with windows XP SP3 running with no problems. Some months ago I decided to move to another OS and then the problems begun. I have been UNABLE to install UBUNTU (my first choice) or windows 7. Whatever I try, the screen freezes in the installation process and a hard shut down is the only choice.

This is my setup:
* case: ZALMAN HD160XT plus. it mounts a 7" touch screen with some uncommon drivers so I decided to unplug it.
* screen: 42" HDMI plugged flat TV
* PSU: be quiet! Pure Power L8-500W (1 year old)
* MB: AMD Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H
* CPU: AMD64 AM2 X2 2,4Mhz
* GPU: i've tried with three different GPUs: buil-in ATI RadeonTM X1250, GEFORCE FX7300 and ATI Radeon HD 4650 DP
* HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda and SDD: 250Gb Samsung 840 Evo; I've tried all combinations (both plugged, only one...). I've tested both discs with speedfan... everything ok
* RAM: 2x1Gb DDR2 (memory has been checked with MemTest86)

What have I tryed so far?

UBUNTU: 14.04 32&64 bits / liveCD and liveUSB ----> same result. I can start a live session and I can get to the desktop but it freezes in 10-15 seconds

WINDOWS 7 64bits: I've checked hardware compatibility with MS compatibility tool and it looks correct. I boot the computer from W7 installation DVD, it charges windows files (gray screen), it changes to blue screen and after a few seconds DVD reader stops and the screen freezes ... always!

Any ideas?

are you installing from a disc? check to ensure the disc your using for installation is not damaged and maybe try swapping out the DVD ROM drive if possible.

Thanks for your interest, Saint37. I will try and let you know.
