I'm trying to set up a Virtual Private Network using PPTP to my company over my DSL. I have this setup working successfully on my WindowsME machine, however when I try to start the VPN session on my Win2K machine, right after it dials, it shows a message that it is "opening port" and it just hangs there.

Does anybody know what this means and how to fix it?

Yes, the modem works fine and I can use dial-up just fine. The DSL works fine as well connecting to the Internet just fine.

the VPN software may have to be customized for 2K. I know here we have 2 different versions, one for 2K and one for XP. Just a thought. Have you asked the admin at work that supplied it to you?

The last time I tried, they weren't supporting Win2k at home yet... but now the company has transitioned to using Win2k at work, so now they may offer support at home as well. I'll give it another try... Thanks.

I'm still curious what that message "opening port" means though...

You guys were right. I got the "auto setup" file from work and it installed properly... I think the issue was I had to install 128 bit encryption to make it work.. that came with the download.

Thanks guys!
