Hey guys. Basically my problem is in the title. Unless I play games with Vsync on I get unbearable screen tearing, but my frames usually dip just enough below 60 that the V sync brings the frames down even more resulting in laggy non smooth gameplay. It seems that I can't win. I play without v sync, and it is a juttery screen tearing picture and not smooth at all. I play with V sync and no matter how low the settings on some games it will usually always dip just enough below 60 and just often enough that it still results in juttery non smooth gameplay.

Without Vsync my frames stay steadily above 60 in pretty much all games and it seems this would be the way to go if it wasn't for the screen tearing.

Is there anyway to get rid of screentearging without turning V sync on?

It's really annoying never being able to achieve a smooth picture.

Specs are :

i5 4690
r9 270x
8gb RAM
1tb Hard Drive
60hz Monitor

QUICK EDIT: This guy manages to get over 60fps constantly in Far Cry 4 but it seems he does not suffer screen tearing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-X7NUXDd4M (not sure if thats just some youtube magic phasing it out though)

there can be many causes for low fps like too many background processes and also note that your monitor is only 60hz which is very low . consider oc your gpu to get more fps. and you can set v sync to adaptive for more performance.

If I had a higher hz monitor would that get rid of the screen tearing then? For when it goes above 60 I mean. Because it seems even when I am getting 40-60 fps with v sync off there is still tearing.

Install msi afterburner and lock fps to whatever you want.

Sadly, I keep hearing reports that radeonpro isn't working in a lot of games, and is no longer being updated.

As far as fixes go, Freesync monitors will be available before long, though I'm not sure if your card will support it, the list of supported GPU's is small. There is also G-sync if you switched to Nvidia. You may also find that 120-144hz monitors can make V-sync feel a little smoother, and going without, tearing is far less noticeable.

Hey Max. I did this and it has improved the juttyness and smoothness but I am still suffering screen tearing. This is strange because I thought that if your frames are bloew the hz of your monitor you should not experience tearing.

I am hoping to be getting a 970 soon enough so hopefully that will quell any issues.
