Question Unable to plug 16-pin adapter into GPU; won't go in all the way.

Just a little over a month ago I purchased an MSI Ventus 2x 4070 ti Super & throughout the whole time since then, I have been unable to get the included 16-pin adapter to fully insert into the connector no matter how hard I seem to push. I have checked for bent pins, checked for dust, tried using a small dab of dielectric grease (which MSI support themselves advised), & even just got them to send me a whole new adapter, which Still didn't do the trick. The first adapter even got stuck at one point & I had to RMA it to get it removed because I was afraid of damaging the GPU trying to get it out. I feel like I'm running out of options here, so I'm really hoping maybe someone here maybe has some other advice I could try.

The connector should go all the way in, per a video which I can't find off of Gamers Nexus YT channel. Have you tried wiggling it(like most people do with their 24pin connector on the motherboard)?

Perhaps pass on images of the connector you speak of. Host your image(s) on Imgur or their ilk and then pass on a link in this thread.

You RMA it so MSI people could disconnect the cable? Did they send you back the same GPU with the same adapter? I mean, they probably tested it after disconnecting the cable (disconnect cable, plug back cable, test the card, remove cable, ship back the card and cable). To me it sounds like you are just not pushing enough. This or the GPU connector has a manufacturing issue (since it did the same with two different adapters), but MSI would have certainly seen that when you RMA it.

By the way, most of those adapters have a lock pin that you need to lift when you disconnect it. It's most often on the side you don't see, and pulling on the connector without pressing to lift the pin is useless, it will not come out. It's why they say you need to hear the "click" when you plug it in, to make sure the lock pin is well engaged.

Even then, though, the fact that I've been using so much force to no avail compared to the 8 pin connectors on my 3070, which I can plug & unplug with great ease, has definitely further convinced me as to how absolutely annoying these new 16-pin connectors are. I'm deathly afraid of potentially damaging the GPU considering how expensive these absolute whoppers are, so if any advice I receive here doesn't pan out, I might just end up trying to find some computer shop in my area that can help install the adapter for me instead, as silly as that may sound.

I have a MSI 4080 and although it felt quite tight the first time I plugged it, I don't remember having to push like crazy. And after a couple of times it got pretty easy.

You could try to take the card out of the case (take the adapter out too) so you have more control on what you do, and try to plug it while you carefully look at the connector from every angle. If you manage to get it in, press the pin to lift the lock and disconnect it. Then try again. The second time should be easier. But don't do it too often as those cables are rated for a limited number of connections and you want to keep as many as possible in bank.

are you using the adapter?

what is your make and model of your psu ill find a proper cable those adapters are hot garbage.
