hello,

I have a Dell poweredge 2950 gen 2 with a perc 5/i controller. The other day it crashed and restarted. the following message was on screen. "Controller event log: Unable to recover cache data due to configuration mismatch: Controller 0 (PERC 5/i Integrated)"

the server had been offline with no power attached for a week and now its running without issue.

That said i was hoping to find out what the error is actually telling me.

I'm assuming that you saw this on the first startup after the system was powered off.

This message indicates that data cached in the raid controller is gone or corrupted. Most likely due to a weak or dead battery or due to not having any battery backup. This is usually not a problem, as long as the system stays powered up, cache data is preserved. But when it's powered off for a long period of time and the battery back up is weak or dead (or non existent) cache data will be losed.

The system crashed and rebooted to ensure that no cached information was used, which could result in data corruption. Once the system came back up, new data was cached, and the system runs normally after that. I doubt you'll see any ill effects.
