I have been trying to update my Java runtime to version 8, and have been unsuccessful. After clicking the .exe installer nothing happens even when running as an administrator. I have tried both online and offline installers.

I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 and I have already uninstalled previous Java versions. I also used JavaRa to try and fix this issue as well as using Microsoft's Fix-It tool, which didn't help. I can re-install Java 7 just fine. It's only the Java 8 installer that does nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

*Edit (11:00PM EST)* - I upgraded to Windows 10 without wiping my hard drive, which didn't help. I'm thinking I'll have to reset my entire computer.

I solved this issue by downloading this free utility http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/fileutil, to see what happened when the installer is run. I found that my jusched.log file was constantly being updated, so I checked that. My java.setting.cfg file was malformed (located in C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java), so I deleted the file and my installer worked!
