So im having problems allocating free space on my new hard drive. I recently upgraded my 1 tb hdd to a 4 tb hdd, and copied my existing data on to the new one using macrium reflect. I was able to boot my pc from the new drive with no problems, but when I go to my disc management like, all of the new storage gained from my larger hdd is unallocated. In addition, because none of the data is adjacent to my C: drive, i cannot extent it out. Any thoughts from anyone?

Solution

Now...right click on the large space, and select New Simple Volume
Then, Format and give it a drive letter.

1. Screencap of your Disk Management window, please.

2. What OS is this?

3. For a boot drive over 2TB, it needs to be GPT, and the BIOS boot needs to be UEFI.

Lemme know if this link works, also my OS is windows 10. Basically im able to allocate that first chunk, but no matter what i do im unable to do anything with that second chunk.

Nope, need permission.

Most people here upload to imgur.com , and post the link.

AS said earlier...

To use a drive larger than 2TB for the OS drive, it needs to be GPT and UEFI in the BIOS.

Personally, I'd just use the 4TB as a secondary drive. Leave the OS on the 1TB, and move a bunch of stuff over to the 4TB.
Much less hassle.

For the boot drive, yes...that is exactly the issue.
And cloning from the 1TB recreated that specific size on the new 4TB. The other space is unusable due to GPT, etc.

Leave the 1TB as the C drive with the OS and applications.
Use the 4TB as a secondary, D drive.

Games, videos, music...all that sort of stuff.

That's what I would do.

Steam games, for instance...
You can have them on multiple drives. The Steam client still on the C drive, and the games can be installed on either.
Steam games location
In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder

To move an already installed game
Games library
Right click the game
Properties
Local Files
Move Install Folder

right clicking on either of the unallocated spaces gives me a few options, new simple volume, new spanned volume, new stripped volume, properties and help, but spanned and stripped volumes are greyed out.

Nothing about Delete?
On the square to the left, where it says Disk 0....right click that.
