Hello,

I'm in the process of my new build, and I was wondering how long I could run my computer without the CPU being cooled. purely for testing purposes.

I'm halfway thru a custom water-cooling loop and I want to make sure everything is working ok before I start taking GPU etc. to pieces and installing water-cooling blocks, hence voiding warrenty.

Any information would be well appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I'd definitely use at least the stock cooler. Like Someone Somewhere said, really bad idea. Even when properly cooled a cpu can easily jump from 25c at idle to 75-80c under load within a second or two. Trying to boot without any cooler on the cpu, your only hope is thermal throttling kicked in and forced a shutdown in time to save it. Otherwise you probably damaged the cpu permanently before even getting to the desktop. I wouldn't put my faith in thermal throttling to save my cpu.
