Underclocking on an FX 8350

I was wondering, in the Catalyst Control Center, there is an option to reduce the clock speed of my FX 8350 all the way down to 1.4 GHz. If I do this, will it damage my CPU in any way? I do play Far Cry 4 but with it at 1.4 GHz it still runs fine!

I was just wondering if running the CPU at that low of a clock speed would damage it in any way.

OK, will it damage it to change the clock speed from 4.7-1.4 at the start of the day and 1.4-4.7 at the end?

It normally runs at 1.4 GHz when idle and it should increase up to the maximum speed if the load requires it; it doesn't continuously run at 4.7 GHz. I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to prevent the CPU from working faster than 1.4 GHz, but I presume it may be to upset whoever uses it during the day with less than optimal performance under load. Forcing the CPU to always run at 4.7 GHz isn't ideal (lots of useless heat), but forcing it to always run at 1.4 GHz certainly doesn't help performance.

You can use Amd's Overdrive software, AMD PSCheck (my personal favorite) or you could go into the bios and change the settings. PSCheck will allow you to lock the cpu at a lower speed and when you want full speed again all it takes is a click of the mouse.
