Hi,

Today I changed my old MSI Nvidia GTX 460 video card with a Gigabyte Radeon RX460 4Gb OC, what I expected was an improvement of the system running my favorite games like Crysis or Mass Effect.

To start with, I faced some issues installing the drivers within the DVD, so it was necessary to download the drivers from AMD webpage using the designated software to do it automatically. Anyway, so far the system is updated with all the dirvers and according to the device manager and AMD Gaming Evolve software that all is working properly.

However when I tried to run Doom 3 the system didn't start the game, then I tried Crysis and all the settings were automatically set in Medium, and when I tried to play I faced a lot of lag. Something that I didn't face with the GTX 460.

Just to clarify, in order to avoid any problem or conflict beause of the card update, I uninstalled all the Nvidia software prior to remove physically the video card. First using Revo Uninstaller and then the video card through the Device Manager.

My current system is as follow:

Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
RAM: 16 Gb Kingston Hyperx Fury 1600 Mhz
Video: Radeon RX460 4Gb OC
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2 Ghz
CPU cooling system: Cooler Master V6
System cooling system: Four 120 mm fans and one 240 mm fan on the top of the cabinet (Cooler Master HAF 912)
PSU: Thermaltake 650W SLI certified

Please, any suggestion about how to improve the system performance as expected with the new video card will be appreciated.

One more and last thing, looking around the web I found out an app Razer Cortex that supposed to improve the system stopping processes and liberating RAM, but I think that is part of the problem.

First off, I would not advise using gimmicky crap until AFTER you have installed your component and tested everything. You want a clean install, it makes troubleshooting issues much simpler. You can add optional software later, so if something goes wrong you'll know why. Next, always download the newest drivers off the AMD or Nvidia website, whichever one is appropriate. You want control of what you're installing and how you're installing it. Drivers off the DVD? Come on, we're past that era lol.

I would download and use MSI Afterburner in order to monitor clockspeeds of your new videocard while gaming. Before you can really do anything about this we need to know if the card is even functioning normally. You can watch the CPU and GPU usage as well.

Razor Cortex software uninstalled, double check that the latest driver is installed and updated, and it is... however with a better videocard some of the games like Crysis, Rainbow Six Siege or Star Wars Battlefront suffered a lot of lag... is not possible to play them.

Some other games like Mass Effect 2 don't run. A message of Physix Software is missing appears but I don't know if is needed for an AMD card.

I regret to change my old reliable Nvidia card for a so called better card.

A shame for AMD.

If you have a spare drive I would recommend installing a fresh copy of windows on it, and drivers, and then seeing how performance was. If it fixes it, great! If not, I would take it you got a bad GPU, in which case you can send it back and get a different one.

Finally I couldn't fix my problem after so much done.

I even updated to Windows 10 to try to fix the problem wihout any good result. The way to go was to buy an Asus Strix GTX 1050 ti 4 gb OC after a lot of work convincing my wife.

Rolled back from Windows 10 to Windows 7, uninstalled the videocard, drivers and all the related software as I did with the Radeon card. Replaced the cards, installed the recent drivers from Nvidia, and after a reboot, everything went to normal and well.

Finally the lesson learned is, to keep with Nvidia... I started to use this video cards after 3dfx was aqcuired by Nvidia in the early 2000's, my very last video card from 3dfx was a Voodoo 4 with 32 mb... since then I didn't gave a chance to other manufacturers until now with very bad results.

Thanks for giving me your time and feedback to solve this issue.
