I just purchased a x1800xt 512mb version and found out that it required an extra external power source ????
My reaction was what the hell? It seems that nedd to buy a new psu?
but i have never seen this type of power socket before.
the older highend Agp card used a 4pin connector.
My question is that I want a good psu for a good price
DFI nf4 ulta D

Kingston hyperV pc4000
X1800xt 512mb

My guess it that I will at leat need maybe a 550wat psu??
what type of psu will I need 2 get to power this power hungry card?
Any specifix type of psu I need 2 look out for??
What about that wierd pin connector for the x1800xt?
PLz Let me know waht kind of psu I should really get?
Thx

You need an ATX 2.0 (aka BTX) power supply.

Alternatively, (if you have a decent power supply, at least 400 watts) you could buy a cable that will convert one of your molex connectors into the plug your X1800 needs.

I had the same problem, I couln't wait do I made my own for my X1800 XL using a cut-up power cable from a dead power supply.

Your card should have come with a power adapter that you can see here
(the cable right above the dvi to anolog adapters) unless you bought a refurbished version. What PSU do you have now? If you whant a new PSU you
this is a good one for your system and it already has the six pin video connector on it.

Alright, thanks guys, U helped alot, by the way my x1800xt was refurbished, bought it locally for $229 😀
I'm guessing thats a killer deal!!
