Understanding Monitor HZ Bandwidth and Resolution With HDMI

I am trying to understand how monitor resolution works, primarily with HDMI as I want to get TV. What versions of HDMI support 1080p@120hz? I've seen various discussions of HDMI 2.0 ONLY supporting this. But some people say you can get 1080p @ 120HZ on HDMI 14.a. But there are numerous discussions that HDMI 1.4a can only support 1024xwhatever it is, at 120HZ. So simply put, What versions of HDMI support 1080p@120hz?

If anyone would mind elaborating on the details on how the answer from my above question is achieved, this would be greatly appreciated.

What TV? There are only a small handful that actually support a 120Hz input(all DLP if i remember correctly). Most only accept a 60Hz input and mimic a higher refresh rate by repeating the same image multiple times.

bignastyid is correct about TVs that accept high frame rates being rare - and often just on one port designated for computer input.

Sony makes a few, Visio makes a couple, and that's about it as far as i know.

There are other features only available with 2.x, Rec2020, 4K@60Hz, YCbCr 4:2:0, and so forth.
