It has been a while since I understood processors, used to be easy

Intel, i7 was better than i5 that was better than i3
The higher the number after the dash, the better

AMD the higher the number the better

Now I get lost, sometimes what I think is a worse processor is better and there are various AMD types
I have not used a AMD in .... I forget when I used one last
Some programs that have processor requirements are not even listed on current computer models, I figure this usually means they are from older models

Is there a simple list of descriptions of processor terms that clarify the current market better?

I'm not sure on AMD, but Intel and Intel based purchased systems are notorious for being ambiguous on what is actually in them.

Intel uses i3, i5, and i7 for desktop and laptop. The power of the processor is not comparable between desktop and laptop within a 'model' and generation; ex, an desktop i3 will crush a laptop i3 and in a lot of cases i5.
