hello everyone
i had some heating issues with my msi 1070ti gaming climbing to 79c on games and benchmarks
running @1962 and +350 mem

resets my oc didn't help much only 2 degrees (i have good airflow and tested with side panel off)

i changed the stock thermal paste with mx4 and nothing changed 🙁 only with air conditioner on helps bring it down to 74c

i know that 79-80c max is not that bad but i wanted to run it a little cooler.

so i managed to undervolt via msi afterburner from 1.0310 to .9430
running @1886 and +350 mem ( tested for hours) still early to be sure its stable though..

now i run 72-73c max with no or very minor impact on performance also power consumption decreased from 105 to around 80's

would that hurt anything or impact performance after some time playing? this method is popular in mining forums but i rarely see posts about it here, so i'm asking if that is not preferred by gamers due to performance impact or anything else?

I don't think undervolting will hurt the card as long as it's running stable. I personally would have adjusted the fan curve first to try to lower the temperatures. That way you aren't sacrificing any performance to do it even if you are only losing a small amount the way you are doing it.

the stock fan curve was hitting up to 80% when on 79c , passed some longer gaming sessions and its 71c max, i tested on fc5 and other demanding games the difference is 2 to 3 fps which is not a big deal

i think gaming on 1440p with 70+ fps are pushing the cooler to its limits causing these high temps.
