I get unexpected freezes on my computer and there is no hdd light. I'm not sure if I should wait more than 5 mins, because when I freeze I just press the reboot button on my desktop. I can't move my mouse and when I toggle my keyboard numlock, the keyboard also freezes and turns off. HDD is a hitachi travelstar 5k750 750 gb. I'm using this 2.5" hard drive as a spare because my WD Caviar Blue 500 GB does not spin when I put it in my computer.

Hey kiwiturkey. I'd recommend that you get any important data which you might have on that drive ASAP, just in case. Then I'd suggest that you download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool to test the drive and see if it has any issues or bad sectors. If everything looks fine after the tests, I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different computer or at least a different SATA cable to see if the same thing happens.
Let me know how everything goes.
As for the WD Blue drive, if the HDD is still under warranty, I'd recommend that you get in touch with our customer support to see if you can RMA it: Warranty & RMA Services

Hope that helps.
