[SOLVED] Unexpected system restarts ?

Last Christmas, I built a pc with brand new components. I managed to replace everything except my GPU which I took from my old pc.

Recently, the system has been restarting randomly. It's happening completely at random, whether the system is under stress or not. It can happen 1 to 2 times a day. The screen suddenly goes black and the boot screen then appears. It doesn't look like the RGB lights inside my case have time to shut off.

In 3 occasions since the restarts started, I've also had my system freeze randomly. Every program suddenly become unresponsive. If I try to launch a new program, it doesn't work. The taskbar is still clickable and the windows start menu opens but if I try to open/close any program, it doesn't work. Even when I try to restart the computer nothing happens. All 3 time, I've had to manually shutdown the computer with the power button and restart it to fix the issue.

Here is a list of my pc specs :

OS : Windows 10 Education
CPU : RYZEN 5800X
GPU : Nvidia MSI GTX960
MOTHERBOARD : Asus Strix B550-F
RAM : 4 × 8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB memory
SSD : Samsung 1Tb 970 Evo
PSU : Corsair RM 750X 80 PLUS Gold certified

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've tried :

  • Checking windows system logs. The only error happening around the time of the restarts is "Unexpected System Shutdown"
  • Windows checkdisk and sfc scannow. Both completed with no errors
  • Windows memory test. No errors
  • Drive test. No bad sectors
  • CPU stress test. Didn't restart during the test
  • GPU stress test. Didn't restart during the test
  • Disabling auto restart when getting an error in Windows. The issue stopped happening for 6 days (Probably coincidental but still strange since it was happening almost every day for a week before that) but then it started happening again as if nothing happened. I looked at the settings when it happened again and it was still disabled.
  • Driver updates
  • Windows updates
Things I have yet to try :

  • PSU test. I don't really have a spare psu so I don't know how I would got about testing it.
  • Reinstalling windows. I want to wait for my school term to end before doing that so I don't have to reinstall every program I need.
  • BIOS update
I'm running out of ideas as to what it could be. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thank you !

Solution
I didn't ignore it, sorry if it seemed that way. I'm using my pc with 2 sticks right now. I'll see if the problem persists

No sorry necessary, we just want to make sure the right advice is taken to troubleshoot the issue. This is a good way of seeing if memory is the issue and with you having 4 sticks, there's plenty of scope to try this and see by elimination if one of the sticks is acting up.

Let us know how you get on.
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What BIOS version are you currently on for your motherboard? If you have a number of updates pending, gradually work your way to the latest. What version(not edition) of Windows 10 are you currently on? So the PSU's about a year old at this point?

My PSU is only about 8 months old. As for the other two I'm not certain I will verify later today when I'm on my computer, but I believe I updated to the latest version of windows 10 just yesterday.

Alright so I checked and the BIOS version I have is AMI 1805 from 2021-02-05 and I have Windows 10.0.19043 build 19043.
