"Unidentified network" causing no internet access through ethernet connection

I just had AT&T fiber installed and my desktop cannot connect to the internet through ethernet. I have a wireless card that connects fine but when I plug the ethernet connection into the wall it is listed as "Unidentified Network" and I don't have internet access. I have Windows 7. The internet worked just fine last week until I moved. I don't know what's going on.

Also do you get any link lights on the ethernet port on your mainboard when the cable is plugged in. Green or orange or both?

No lights on my desktop. When I plug the ethernet cable to my switch or to my xbox I do get lights.

Bad nic or bad cable would be my guess. Good luck! Pinging the loopback (127.0.0.1) just means all of you tcp/ip stuff is in order.

A few days ago I received the same message. The internet was virtually nonexistent. Changing settings, uninstalling and reinstalling programs, nothing seemed to help, until I realized that my latest install was the culprit.
I had installed a VPN a few days earlier, at the same time as the issue appeared. After disconnecting the VPN, all is well again.
Perhaps this will work for another.
