I've been have the trouble with connecting with my workgroup switch the past few days after coming back from a trip. It simply refuses to connect to the internet even after trying a bunch of solutions that i've found on this websites and others.
One of the things that's strange is that (to my knowledge) nothing has changed from the time I left and came back other than turning off the computer. After coming back, it shows the Ethernet connection that I've been using (that's plugged into the workgroup switch with the switch having a phone line running from it to a plug in the wall) showed up as a public network under the name "Unidentified network". It won't let me change the fact that it's public either(i've tried the powershell solution to that which also didn't work for some reason). So far i've tried a bunch of things to see what I can do about it but after seeing that the problem wasn't solely with the desktop i've been using (tried it with a laptop and had the same result) i'm really not sure what to do at this point other than buying another one and seeing if it works.
Some extra info that might help identify the problem:

Some extra info that might help identify the problem:
-Wifi works fine in the house
-I've tried using TMAC and switching the Mac Add for a while but it either doesn't work or i'm not using it right
-I've used 3 different cat5 cables for the connection from the workgroup switch to the desktop
-When troubleshooting with windows, the problem is identified as not having a valid IP configuration, which i've looked and tried solutions for as well
-Manually setting the IP & DNS for IPV4 didn't work (it's currently set back to automatic after failing to fix the problem)
-DHCP is enabled
-This is what i've been using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124004
-What the output of ipconfig /all looks like
