Uninstalled programs and laptop went wonky

Hello, I uninstalled some programs that i didn't use anymore, like games, video converters, audio converters and quicktime and now my laptop's display keeps goes back to the default settings and a few of my programs cannot work. (like steam)

I use an Asus x42j with windows 7, i7 and a 1 gb graphics card.

(oh and i'm not sure where i should post this..)

Did you uninstall any Asus related software that may be related to your display?

No I didn't. I'm a computer retard, so I don't like messing with the original stuff given.

Did you update your graphics driver?

Your laptop carries the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 1G DDR3 VRAM, if that is correct.

See if updating works.

Download the latest CCC from the AMD site and update the GPU's drivers. It will work itself out.

Choose the right model of the GPU or then choose the autodetect software option.

It's the Catalyst Control Center for any ati/amd graphics card.

It helps you set color or balance settings for your display and other options for your graphics card. It comes with the necessary driver for your graphics card.

When try to download the programs, it says 'error occured'. Do i need to download something else in advance?

What browser are you downloading from?

Do most files get corrupt when you try to download them?
This usually indicates failing RAM .
Or then you just had one of those connection spikes, try downloading the files to a different location, like another partition. Do not use a USB drive to directly download the files onto.

You need a laptop graphics driver - not the desktop version.
AMD Mobility drivers.

You may have to do a windows 7 repair. If that is possible for you.

I don't have a windows 7 DVD, cause it came pre-installed on the laptop when I bought it.

Is there a possibility that you have a restore point that you can fall back to? This problem seems that it can only be done through a system restore or windows repair.

You can download and burn yourself a Windows 7 installation DVD.
You can run the Win7 install to do a Win7 repair that should fix any Win7 specific problems.

It's a good idea to have a DVD as backup to your installed Win7.
Be sure to write your License Key on the DVD - just in case you need it later.

@fantastik250 i had a restore point earlier (which was the deleting of iTunes) and after i tried to restore, there was an error. when i attempted to restore again, it said there weren't any restore points.

Are you trying to install a 64Bit AMD driver onto a 32Bit OS? Please check which edition of windows is the laptop using.

So far steam has started working, but the display still reverts to the default settings whenever I turn it on and I still have some problems with some download accelerator programs. How do I check if there are any other problems?

When you were installing your amd driver did you have any other programs open?

If it's not too lat you can try a complete systems restore to factory defaults , so the system gets back to the time when you actually bought the laptop. Of course you will end up loosing all the updates after that and your data on the rig.
But it would be a better option since one after the other we might keep seeing new problems popping up on your rig now.
You need to press F9 during boot up to get into the recovery menu and do not need a CD for it, the rig will go back to factory defaults from a hidden partition on the rig itself.
