Recently "updated" to Windows 10 and decided to uninstall and go back to Windows 7 (less than 30 days). Everything seemed to go well but now I cannot open any web pages. I reinstalled IE11, rebooted by wireless router (all other devices still work fine on the network).
Whenever I open Internet Explorer I get This page can't be displayed.
"Fix connection problem" does not find anything wrong. I can ping my router (192.168.1.1) and gateway (127.1.1.1) but that's it. If I try to ping yahoo.com, I get that Ping request could not find host. Going nuts. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance

Didn't work. I downloaded the latest drivers for Windows 7, uninstalled the current driver and installed the download. Still get the This page can't be displayed message every time I open IE11.

You're referring to the latest drivers for your ethernet adapter...correct?

Sorry, No. Network Settings still say I am connected to the internet, but nothing is opening. I downloaded and installed the wireless network card driver, rebooted by access point and modem, disabled and enabled just about everything I can find, and still get "This page can't be displayed". I wonder if it has anything to do with DNS?

Try transferring a full firefox installer to that computer and installing firefox. When it opens, tell it not to import any settings. If that works, your issue is simply with your IE settings. If not, the issue is larger and perhaps firewall related.

I tried installing Firefox but the installation stops and I get a message "Your download was interrupted. Please click the OK button to continue." and then I get the "This page can't be displayed" as it is trying to connect to mozilla.org. I downloaded the installation file to a flash drive and copied it to my computers download folder. Tried to install from there.

I don't think I was installing the full Firefox. Got another install file and ran it. Firefox installed by won't do anything. I get a New Tab page and no matter what url I use, I get nothing.

Ok, if firefox couldn't connect to anything you have issues. Here a few things you can try:

In the IPv4 properties (right click on the network icon, then Network and Sharing, then Change adapter settings, then right click on properties for the network you use), manually enter in a new DNS, with the first one being 8.8.4.4 and second being the one your internet company provides (check your router)

Temporarily disable any firewalls including the windows one

If your router is set to dhcp, do not manually set the ip address or gateway, some routers can get confused and drop your connection entirely. Only change the DNS setting.

In fact, now looking at the numbers I can see your exact problem. Your gateway is NOT 127.1.1.1 or 192.164.1.1. Your gateway is going to be 192.168.1.1 (your router).

I mistyped the gateway; I did use 192.168.1.1. I returned everything to the automatic settings. What I tried didn't help. Tried the DNS settings again, still nothing. Do I need ipv6 with windows 7?

Most ISPs don't have IPv6 enabled yet, so no.

The best thing to do is completely uninstall your network drivers and settings and then try again from scratch.

Still not working. I uninstalled the network, uninstalled the network adapter, reinstalled the driver for the wireless network adapter, it automatically found my network and connected. But will not display any web pages.

Never could get it fixed. I finally did a full factory restore, installed 149 "Important Windows Updates" and reconfigured everything. What a pain. Thank you all for trying. Merry Christmas everyone.
