Question Uninstalling Nvidia driver on a Windows 98SE PC ?

While Darkbreeze's graphics driver clean install thread is very good guidance, the recommended Wagnard tool only works for Win7 and later systems.

I am trying to get a retro D-4100 to work running Win98SE and the latest version of the nVidea driver for the installed graphics card doesn't work very well. How do I get rid of this unwanted driver so I can get back to an earlier version on a Win98SE system?

Simply installing the desired earlier version of the appropriate nVidea driver over the presently installed driver hasn't worked!

Advice, guidance, and/or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Running the installer again usually triggers the un install process for normal apps.

If not, always try vogons for your retro computing issues.
Terry Laze's advice was most helpful. I regret to advise that the tool he recommended - Driver Cleaner - while it was helpful, did not do a complete job. The nVidea driver I want to be rid of is still in my Win98SE system somewhere.

Could it be that there is a hidden driver cache buried in Win98SE some place where Driver Cleaner doesn't reach? The Win98SE system is a new clean install on an old Dimension P3 4100 and there is very little else presently on the machine's HD. After a fairly complete search, I did find some drivers in the Windows\System32\Drivers folder but none of them looked like the nVidea driver I want to get rid of. Could something be buried in the system's registry somewhere? Trying to install the desired nVidea driver doesn't take; i.e., the driver I am trying to deinstall is still running things.

Anyway and as when I started this thread, Any and all guidance, help, and/or suggestions will be most appreciated.

You could download sandboxie and install the driver in there it will make its own folder and build all the folders and put all the files in there so you can look through them, it will not install for real or mess with your system in any way so you can do that on ay PC you want just so you get a list of all the files it created and their locations.

There could very well be software that does this automatically but I don't know of any.

Thanks to Terry Laze for a most interesting suggestion. I've been around since the days of the IBM PC-1 and MS-Dos but had never heard of Sandboxie. I can't help but wonder if there isn't an easier way to get rid of the unwanted nVidea driver. As my retro Win98SE hasn't had any applications loaded on it and isn't yet functional, why couldn't I just reinstall Win98SE? Wouldn't an OS reinstall get rid of whatever mischief the unwanted n-Videa driver is causing?

My younger self would have enjoyed tracking down whatever has happened but at the moment I just want to get this retro Win98SE fully operational. Again, many thanks to Terry Laze and anyone else who can offer some insight.
