Unknown Device in Device Manager and Nvme M.2 SSD not showing in Win 11

Hi,

I am new here so I hope my question is in the correct place and format!

PC:
  • OS: Windows 11
  • MB: Gigabyte A320M-h
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • GFX: Radeon RX 6800
  • RAM: 2x Kingston 16GB 3200MHz DDR4
  • Power: 700W Mid range power supply
  • Storage: SATA 1T HDD (windows installed here) & Kingston FURY Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2T SSD - This is not displaying in Windows

I have been incrementally upgrading my PC but have run into some probelms now that I am trying to get the above SSD card to be recognised in Windows 11.

I did get a new MB which I had some problems booting my HDD with so for now, I am trying to use the A320M-h.

In the BIOS, the drive is recognised in the NVMe configuration and I can run a self-test etc which it passes. However in the chipset section where SATA devices are listed no SSD is displayed - I assume that is because it is not a SATA M.2 SSD but NVME?? It should be noted I have the most up to date BIOS version for this board.

In windows, the Disk Manager is not displying the drive, nor is it shown in
Code:
diskpart
. In the device manager there is an unknown device which I suspect could be the SSD. It has an ID of
Code:
{54CB850D-A731-8590-0628-1992592BD448}\RCBOTTOM\5&104327EB&0&131071
as is listed as not having its drivers installed. I am having a hard time working out if this is a probelm with drivers, and without them windows can't recognise the drive, or with the BIOS config.

What I have done so far:

  1. Removed and reset the SSD into the m.2 slot
  2. Enabled the NVMe Raid Mode
I can't seem to find out if I can use the M.2 slot and the PCIE x16 slot for my GFX card concurrently but I would have imagined that I could.

But beyond that I am not sure. Its worth mentioning that I am not planning to use this as a boot drive - I just want to access it's storage and create a partition on it. I do plan to instal the OS on it at a later date.

So to frame this as an actual question: Why can I not see my installed Kingston FURY Renegade PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2T SSD in the disk manager in order to initialize, partition and ultimately use the drive?

This motherboard?

What to do:

First, review the entire User Manual to gain a sense of the motherboard's setup and potential configurations. Verify that all installed components are indeed supported by the motherboard.

Second, work through the User Manual step by step to double check all that you have done.

Third, visit Gigabyte's website. Look for updates regarding your Gigabyte A320M-h. Check the FAQs and Forums as well.

There may be some simple error of omission or commission.

Focus on getting just the intended boot drive (C:) installed and obtaining a successful boot.

Then add the storage drive thereafter.

Hi Ralston18 thanks for your reply,

Yes that is indeed the correct board. I have been through the manual a few times. I have given it another close check. Certainly the SSD I have is compatible with the board since I have a Ryzen processor and not an A-Series/Athalon processor as per in the manual:

Supports only M.2 SATA SSDs when using an AMD 7th Generation A-series or Athlon™ processor. Referto the following table for details.

Another thing I noticed in the manual was this:

Please note that an M.2 PCIe SSD cannot be used to create a RAID array.

If I am not using the SSD to boot from, but instead only wish to use it for extra storage space, do I have to configure it in RAID mode? Surely it should be visible even if not configured in such a way.

In addition I might have confused you when mentioning boot probelems. That was only on a different motherboard and I probably should not have mentioned it at all to avoid confusion 🙄! Either way my C: drive boots just fine, but I can't see the SSD card when booted into Windows in the disk management service.

Thanks
