Unknown hard disk?

I often run the defrag tool on my PC and there is this drive called \\?Volume... and it says 'Needs optimisation' but when I click optimise nothing happens. My computer has only one internal hard drive and as you can see I have a partition, but no external hard drives etc. So does anyone know what this is and what I can do about it?

That is indeed what that is. Anything that shows as a folder tree and not a drive letter typically is a system allocated file or directory and should be left out of defragmentation and other general maintenance.

Actually in this case I'm pretty sure it's a virtual volume such as a program used to mount ISO files as system disks. The system recovery partition is two up from the one in question.
