Occasionally, I will try to play a game with my controller (X360) but I get no response. I have done a DxDiag and found the K/M, my X360 controller and then a random "phantom" controller, with a a weird Controller ID. I've got nothing plugged into my PC other than the Xbox pad, mouse and my keyboard. There are no drivers for this imaginary controller and i've fixed it before by deleting the xnacc.sys driver and Adobe Air (for some reason). They are gone so I dont know why the ghost controller has reappeared...help anyone?

I know you may love to use your xbox 360 controller as a gamepad for PC games, but have you tried using a ps3 controller instead? I feel it works better and you don't need any silly windows drivers to make it work. I have this tutorial on youtube from someone that I just need to fine for you and you'll be on your way.

It's called "PS3 Controller Installation On Windows Vista/7/8 (NO MOTIONINJOY) Easier Method, video is by pain975.

I know this DOES NOT solve your current situation, but I felt like I could throw in an alternative method if you somehow never figure out why that ghost controller keeps popping up, :).

Hope this helped in one way or another.

Yeah I was considering it, but I just cant use the PS controllers. I have large hands and to me the playstation controller is uncomfortable haha. I fixed the issue anyway, it was a driver left from ages ago that decided to finally play havoc. all sorted for now haha. Cheers for the suggestion though

Haha, totally understand! Glad you got to the bottom of it on your own, 😀!
