Hi, I updated my laptop (HP 14-d005AU) from Windows 8 to 10 and everything was working well for a while until I began having problems with my disk usage being stuck on 100% which kinda locked up the computer.
Things I tried were disabling the services Superfetch and Windows Search, disabling that P2P update option for windows updates (seemed to work for a few days), increasing the pagefile size to my amount of RAM (which also seemed to work for a while) etc.
I began getting that hard drive check coming up at boot and it would always hang at 7% but I could still skip it and use windows fine. I checked the drive in windows and it said there were errors so I tried to use chkdsk but it said it couldn't lock the disk and I had to do disk check at boot which still would hang at 7%.
It got worse at boot from the amount of time getting the message about checking an repairing the disk and being able to skip it going from about 5 seconds to maybe 10 minutes and windows began loading with alot of things missing, wifi for example in a kind of random order, sometimes things would be there sometimes they wouldn't until it got to the point where it would just hang at that message whether I skipped the disk check or not and windows wouldn't load.
I downloaded Neosmart EasyRE for Windows 10 and made a bootdisk with the ISO. I wasn't able to boot with it so I followed their instructions and set the boot order to start with the DVD drive first which didn't work and then I disabled secure boot from the bios.
Now all that happens is a blank screen appears when I start the laptop. Can't boot from anything and can't even access the bios anymore. No sounds nothing at all.
Is there anything I can do to fix this or should I just bin it? Not sure if its a hardware problem or specifically because of Windows 10
Any help would be nice thanks

on laptops the can lock up or post if the hard drive starts to fail where it a spindle or a head issue and the drive is pulling more power then the system board can give. if your hard drive can slide out after a few screws are removed i would do it and see if the system boots into bios. if the bios wont start turn the pc off and reseat the ram and any cards on the bottom of the laptop.

Well hi there, I also have the HP 14-d005au Notebook PC and my friend downloaded the newer bios F. 10 because the pc was very slow and now everything is blank.
Nor I cant come into bios or something else for that, so I am wondering have you came over the issue or is it the same blank...
If you have an old backup from the bios I think you can restart it back, I would test it but even I dont have it and it sucks because it is a nice little notebook.
I bought mine in MediaMarkt in Sweden and I changed the hard to a ssd and it was great but I wanted to test the windows 10 as you, and my friend is the smartass so thats why my notebook does not work anymore...great. best regards, /M

Well the topics you advised to is mine and I know about a new motherboard could help, but is to expensive to buy one when you can buy a brand new notebook for 250$ and a motherboard costs 175-250$ and thats crazy.
I would gladly recover the bios but how, the notebook is blank with some shining screen tho.
Well it is easy to say things now about my friend, he is realy a great guy and I lost a notebook and I will survive but if I could get it to wake up it would be nice.
I have tried to sell it, but with not any interest from people as I understand.
Well if there is any help out there it would be great.

Thanks for a reply /M

I actually looked at your user name here when i read that as it seemed too much of a coincidence. I didn't mean to offend you.

BIOS is dead but hdd should still be okay inside so take that out and use it in next laptop. Its a shame you can't recover the bios, some computers around now have 2 bios, one as back up.
