So just a general question as i have never ran across this before.

Generally speaking when you have a board (100 or 200 series for ex.) that says it will support a 7th gen intel CPU as long as it has the latest BIOS update (for updated microcode), if you do not have a 6th gen CPU to boot up and get into the BIOS are you dead in the water?

I guess what i am asking is, would you have to have a 6th gen CPU in the board first, then go update the BIOS, then once that's done, boot it down, swap the CPU out for a 7th gen.

Only one way to find out i guess, I have actually never had to do this before so it will be interesting to see. If i absolutely have to have a 6th gen chip to use first, i could just go get i3 6 gen cpu on the cheap. Just suck to waste money for a cpu that you will use for 10-15 minutes lol

Hoping to find someone who has been through this before.
