Do I need to close applications such as Norton Security/Anti-Virus before
downloading Windows updates? If so, how do I do this as under ME I could go
to the task manager but with XP the task manager doesn't show such underlying
applications.

Greetings --

I've never found a need to disable antivirus protection before
downloading and installing Windows updates; nor have I ever
encountered any adverse affects caused by not doing so. Others,
however, have reported differing results.

Disabling a Norton product, however, would have nothing to do with
the OS; simply follow the instructions provided by Symantec in the
Help files.
