currently i own a i3 2120,
intel DH61HO mobo,
r9 270x
cx 500 PSU.

We can't say about the future. The R9 270x is a mid range card now. So, it MIGHT run new games at low settings in 2 years.

If you upgrade to the i5-3450, then it will last you in the gaming industries for two years or so.

But then you will need an upgrade the graphics card, however you may experience a slight bottleneck if you proceed with the graphics card option.
