Approximate Purchase Date: Hopefully over the next few weeks (want to get parts till I can find a reasonably priced processor)

Budget Range: It is still open but do not want to go to crazy i.e. $500 motherboard is over budget

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming

Are you buying a monitor: No not till next GPU upgrade



Parts to Upgrade: M.2 (addition), Motherboard (AM4), RAM 16gbs, and CPU (5600x when i can find one)
Do you need to buy OS: No
Please note that if you're using an OEM license of Windows, you will need a new one when buying a new motherboard.

Not picky as long as they are not shady

Parts Preferences: AMD 5600x cpu

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: Currently 1080p, will be upgraded next couple years when I upgrade GPU again

Additional Comments: Currently working with a 1070 TI GPU. Wifi is not needed.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: It has been 4ish years since i have last upgraded my cpu(sky lake i5) and have upgraded my gpu since

I'd do this: wait until next month when Intel releases the new Rocket Lake (11th gen. cpu's) so you get native support for 3200MHz RAM, PCIe 4, and improved IPC.

Your best bet right now is buying a whole new pre-built system. It's super unfortunate as a lot of people really want to get into building a custom PC themselves, but parts prices make it impossible to recommend anything custom right now. All I can say is look for something with a 30 series GPU or a 6000 series AMD GPU, and sell your old parts.

Hold on to your current gpu and register on Bestbuy, EVGA site, etc .. so you can get notified the next time they get a batch of cards in stock such as the RTX 3060 Ti or the RTX 3070.

Here's a review of the current Comet Lake i5 10400F ($155 on newegg atm). Look for the Rocket Lake version of that chip (i5 11400F) to run circles around it due to native support of 3200Mhz RAM and improved IPC.
