[SOLVED] Upgrade Advice

Hiya

I'm Looking to upgrade my pc as I brought all the parts about 5 years ago.
I mostly play games like Ark: survival evolved, rust, apex and Farming sim 19 and I would love to play most of my games on decent settings.

My current specs are:
MSI H110 PC MATE Socket 1151 ATX Motherboard
Intel 7500 Core i5 6M chache 3.8Ghz
2x8GB HyperX RAM @ 2400Mhz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
1x 1TB Hard Drive
1x 250GB Samsung SSD

For cooling I have a Kraken X31, 3x 140mm fans and 1x 120mm fan.

I was looking at buying a intel core-i7 6700k 4GHz, 4 cores and 8 threads but after doing some research I am not sure what to upgrade anymore.

Any help would be appreciated,

The highest you can go with that mobo is a 7700k.
When you look at the price/perf your better off going to a current gen cpu.
Which means cpu/mobo/ram.

I am willing to spend up to £300 max, located in cornwall (UK) and currently play at 1920 x 1080.

I7 7700k.
When you look at the price of that cpu and compare the perf to going to a new gen cpu with a new mobo and new ram it does not make much sense going to the I7.

That board is limited to 2933Mhz RAM. Switch it out with a B560 board so that you can run 3200Mhz RAM.

Yeah the mobo is limited to 2933MHz but you need to consider that intel processors doesn't benefit much with higher ram speeds. Many tech youtubers like linus and jayz did prove it. With intel processors you don't need higher speed memory modules. B-460 is still a good performer. So no need to worry about ram speeds

This is false. An i5 10400/f, in a B460 board will be limited to 2666, and will suffer from a performance hit. An R3 3300x, with 3200mhz ram, on a cheap B450/550, is faster, in gaming, than a 10400/f forced to run at 2666. GN did 2 videos, regarding the 10400. The initial review, showing ram speed performance differences, and a second tuning a high dollar kit, to run super tight timings, at 2666, and the results were still not very good. Speeds past 3200 don't give much uplift, but 2666 will hold it back.

The MSI B460M-A PRO is a terrible board, VRM wise, and lacks a heatsink for them as well.

You cannot really cut corners, especially on Intel boards, if you want to get the most out of the CPU. Boards with poor VRM's will not boost the cpu to its max potential, and in some cases, thermal throttle, costing you even more performance.

Sure, I wouldn't pair a higher performance CPU with that board but it should be fine for a 10400F
