Wanted to upgrade my memory in my HP Pavilion zd8000 (currently 2x512).. So I purchased 2GB (2x1GB DDR2 PC2-4200, Crucial) thanks to neweggs suggestoin.
But when I swapped them out my laptop beeped a few times (2 or 3 long?) on bootup. Screen stayed blank. Feared I busted something but when I put my old memory back in the computer returned to normal.
Crucial website actually posted my memory at "Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot."
I'm rusty but, I thought a lesser version still worked, did I simply get the wrong stuff? Or is the problem entirely different and still salvageable?
