I have a motherboard/ram/cpu combo from a prebuilt system, everything else is upgraded. The CPU i have is an i5 4430s, an asus prebuilt specific motherboard (looks like a h87m PRO) and 12gb (4+8gb) of adata ddr3 ram. I'm currently wondering if i will run into any issues if i swap out the i5 4430s with an i7 4770k (found a shop that still has one). I know i wont be able to overclock, but will it be able to run or are there some issues?

Solution

You coult in theory encounter a situation where the motherboard's bios doesn't support the cpu. Not an issue with asus though. Go for it!
I know that some of the other prebuilts in the same series (also with same case and model number, but different specs) come with CPU's like 4770s, but I'm unsure if they come with the same motherboard (i think so). My PSU is a Cooler Master G650M 650 watt 80+ bronze that i know will work with this setup, GPU is GTX770.

I think I've decided to just buy a i7 4790k and a z97 motherboard, so that i can get rid of all the "prebuilt" stuff and get a quality motherboard with up to date drivers and stuff. Thanks for answers though!

That's wrong. The old board will serve you well on that generation. If you want upto date, go i7 6700k and z170.

I just ordered the 4790k, hyper 212 evo and a asus Z97-P. I got it for about 500USD, whereas the 4770k only would cost about 400. My budget was a bit tight, but i got the motherboard so fricking cheap, I said fuck it and bought it. i5 6600k would require new ram, and a motherboard which would be around 520USD, and deliver lower performance. The i7 6700k, with new ram and motherboard would be 820USD so its definately not worth the extra. Thanks for the answer anyways.

Yeah, if you're going to keep your ram, i guess that's the way to go. Have fun with your new build.
