upgrade CPU or GPU?

I have i3 6100 and GTX 950.
i plan to either upgrade to i7 6700 and R9 390. but i havent got the budget for both.
should i upgrade my gtx 950 to r9 390 first or i3 6100 to i7 6700?

I'd personally go for the 390 (that's unless you're willing to wait for the next line up of GPUs to come out)-the i3 6100 is quite a capable processor that will serve you well for mid-range gaming.

The GPU by far will help your gameplay much more. The i3 6100 is a very capable processor and it will be a couple years before its a real problem for gaming and only on the newest games that would want a multi-core processor for best performance.

For better gaming experience, I would upgrade the GPU. Gtx 950 is a pretty capable card (depend on the games and setting you play at), your i3 can bottleneck a lot of high-end cards. i3 is probably limit you gtx 970 or R390. CPU last you much much longer than GPU, as GPU get refreshed every year that outperforms its predecessor much more than CPU does. I say go for an upper range i5 and use the dollars you saved on a GPU upgrade later on (if you can squeeze more out of your 950 by overclocking it a bit.

Since Nvidia's new cards have just recently been announced, price drops on the older high-end cards may be just around the corner. You should wait until the new cards are available at your local retailer and grab a bargain on the older high-end card.
