Upgrade CPU or GPU

So I have 1080ti and a i5 8400 I play on a 1440p 165hz gsync monitor should I upgrade to a i7 8700k or watercool the gpu I wanted to see the best performance

Yes, the 1080 ti is pretty limited with the i5 8400.
Either the i7 8700K or if you dont want to spend as much a X1700 and a X370 Pro which both are extremely good prices for a 8 core CPU and X370 mobo.

an i5-8400 would bottleneck your 1080ti as newer AAA games utilizes 8 threads. So I would suggest that you upgrade your CPU to an i7 as its better for multithreading, which is required in modern games

not for gaming no, ESPECIALLY 144hz+ first gen ryzen sucks pretty bad for this

OP could wait a bit and see what the 9900k/9700k benches like
