Question upgrade cpu or gpu

i have £600 to spend and my current system is a ryzen 5 1600x, 16gb or ram, and a GTX 1080
im wondering whether or not to upgrade my 1080 to a rtx 2080 or to wait and upgrade to the new ryzen cpus when there released? i purely do gaming and dont do editing or anything else, i have a 1440p 144hz monitor and i want to make the most out of it, so what should i get, a new cpu or a new Graphics card?

if you aRE Starting to lag in your games , then get the 2080 , if not upgrade your system as a whole

not really lagging but in games like rust and gta 5 i get around 60-90fps on max settings

2080 is a powerful card but your ryzen 5 will most probably bottleneck it anyhow . still worth it . you can upgrade your cpu later

yes, after i get the 2080 i was thinking of selling my old 2080 to go towards a new am4 cpu as im unable to afford a new motherboard on top of it.
