Upgrade F16 FLCS?

Hi,

I upgraded my PC a while ago and ended up without a game port (soundcard
built onto motherboard).
I'd like to get back into flight sims after a long break, and I was
wondering what options I've got to make my ageing F16 FLCS/TCS work. I
think I've got three options:

1. Buy a USB to gameport adapter. Has anyone used one of these with the F16
FLCS/TCS?
2. Buy a cheap soundcard with gameport. I don't like the sound of this as
I've had two soundcards installed in previous PC's and I've had problems
selectively disabling them/getting games to address the correct one.
3. Buy a new HOTAS setup. Anything better than the F16 FLCS/TCS combo these
days?

Finally, I have a Ball Racing Developments Sim Pro v2 and pedals connected
to my PC. This combination uses a single USB port, but whatever HOTAS I end
up with needs to be compatible with the BRD stuff.

Thanks,
Dave.

Here is what I did and what works for me.

If you use XP, get a creative aureal2. It's better sound, more hardware
acceleration (at least it seems so to me). Get Bob Church's digital chips
for the FLCS. Get a CH pro pedal set for the rudder pedals (USB version)
unless your RCS stays calibrated and is less spiky then mine).

Kill the onboard sound in the bios. Use the aureal 2. Plug the
thrustmaster setup into the game port on that. Use the digital chips in the
thrustmaster. assign the CH pro pedals as your rudder pedals in the games
"assign joystick axis" submenu. Fly happy.

BTW, the only thing I've not been able to get to accept the CH pedals on a
separate axis is Janes FA 18. I'm still stuck using the RCS for that.

If you use Win98se, it's a much more involved process, b/c the aureal2
drivers can make some games slow down. There's a way to fix that (google
for several responses to my original complaints about that in the newsgroups
as well as my previous explaination on how to make it all work in Win98se.

You can't get Bob Church's chips anymore. See here:
http://home.att.net/~stickworks/

Flightsim Central used to carry them, but not anymore. As far as I know,
they were the only source.

I have an FLCS/TQS I was going to upgrade, but I missed the opportunity.

Now I have a Cougar with Simpeds. Quite happy with the combo - that's why I
never got around to upgrading the FLCS/TQS...

If you get Cougar, look here for info about flashing the bios (it can kill
your throttle) and for some easy mods to fix the speedbrake / dogfight
switch alignments to make the switches last longer.

W-H-A-T ??? Bob??? How could you do this to us <g>?

Any plans for any further production runs - or are there really no
more un-modded sticks out there?

DAMN... my wife dropped mine cleaning up after the hurricane and popped a
switch out. I put it back ok, but there were some anxious moments "Err..
Honey, you do realize this is the stick I paid all that money for (that you
went nuts about, right?) - You do realize it's even more scarce and will be
more expensive to replace, right?" I have an extra stick and throttle
around I use for parts, but they don't have the chips.
