I'm unsure wheather to wait for the 3000 series prices to come down to retail or to just upgrade now. I wouldn't want to upgrade just the cpu and have it carry the gpu.
I'll be playing most titles at max/high settings, CSGO solid 300+fps, ESO solid 144+fps and Battlefield 2042 to run smoothly at high/medium settings.
I'm running an 144hz monitor and wouldn't really be neccessary to get 144 fps in every game just high stable fps.
I've found a cpu and mobo to go with it, let me know what u guys think, It's my second time going for an AMD cpu and this one is quite a big upgrade...

CPU:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08164V...trd-gb-1890708255581197300-21&geniuslink=true

MOBO:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083HZ7...pcg-gb-1264724601494156300-21&geniuslink=true

and my current pc setup (built in 2016):
Case:.......................Corsair Carbide 400c
Motherboard:.....AsRock Z170 Gaming K4
CPU:........................i5-6600k Skylake 3.5GHz
CPU cooler:..........be quiet! Dark rock3 pro
Graphics card:.....MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X
RAM:.......................Corsair Vengance 16GB DDR4
Power supply:.....EVGA 650w platinum
HDD:.......................WD 1TB (WD10EZEX-00BN540)
SDD:........................Samsung M.2 SATA 256GB (MZHPV256HDGL-00000)

Should I upgrade the GPU too? If so, any suggestions? Can I run an NVIDIA GPU with an AMD board? How will this affect performance? Will the mobo fit my current case?

Solution
You could save yourself quite some money by getting an Intel build like this for instance,

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product...10850k-36-ghz-10-core-processor-bx8070110850k
or
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product...-11700k-36-ghz-8-core-processor-bx8070811700k

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product...-atx-lga1200-motherboard-mpg-z590-gaming-plus
motherboard choice is just one i think will be good but can be changed. There are cheaper and more expensive options.

the money saved could go to a better gpu. One review,
https://www.anandtech.com/show/16341/intel-core-i9-10850k-review-the-real-intel-flagship/11
this also shows that you would be cheaper...

this also shows that you would be cheaper with a 5800X or even 5600X and that Gigabyte motherboard is in my opinion very expensive, there should be something in a better price range with about as much features as the one you chose. I these days don´t worry too much about overclocking if that is what you get it for, would just let whatever cpu run turbo and leave it at that.

There are no problems in mixing Brands like Nvidia with AMD for example. The only thing that the AMD components have is pcie 4.0 compatibility which might mean something in the future and when using a M.2 ssd which is pcie 4.0. They also will use less power.

What resolution are you playing at btw?

Solution
Here's another option. This build will allow you to run that cpu with the power limits turned off in the bios. It's a round a bout way of o/c those cpu's. No idea what your resolution is but I'd look at a new graphics card.

tyvm for the recommendations! I'm running at 1920x1080 @ 144hz. What gpu do you guys recommend since the 3k series is stupid money atm
Graphic cards are going for an insane cost atm due to the chip shortage but I'd look for an RTX 3060 Ti. You want a 650w psu for those cards.

https://pricespy.co.uk/search?search=rtx 3060 ti <--- check here. I know Falcon Computers UK had some in stock a few days ago.

btw if you need to cut cost in order to fit one of those cards in your budget than here's an option to have a look at.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08X7DBHS1/
MSI MAG B560M BAZOOKA £99.98

https://www.awd-it.co.uk/intel-core...e-socket-lga1200-processor-bx8070811400f.html
Intel Core i5-11400F £194.99

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B560M-BAZOOKA

Reviews of that cpu with benchmarks.

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/intel-core-i5-11400f-processor-review,1.html

Scan hasn't had that cpu in stock for months now. They keep pushing up the estimated arrival date. The cpu cooler is total overkill btw. If your dead set on a dual tower/dual fan cooler then look at the cheaper be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 but tbh that Shadow Rock 3 should be more than adequate. You can also save yourself 18 quid by going with the Crucial memory I posted.

There's always the cheaper RTX 3060 to consider. A 550w psu is what's recommended for those cards.

And if you're looking to save money on an RGB case then here's one to consider. This case has gotten excellent reviews.

https://www.box.co.uk/Lancool-II-me...Lancool-II-Mesh-RGB-Tempered-Gla_2994936.html
Lian Li Lancool II Mesh £96.99

Exhaust fan for that case.

would this fit? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vetroo-V5-...NPNGT6D/ref=psdc_430499031_t1_B07F12J69M?th=1 what sort of clearance do i need for it to not scrape anything lol 5mm/10mm?

It's under 150mm so should fit. Can't really say more. Guess that you're still looking at the Corsair case ...

from what i have heard, mechanical hard drive and ssd drive is not much difference in speed when storing them but for OS you should definitely use ssd.

Would be best to have games on an ssd as well.

m.2 or 2.5 for games/os. I'm planning on getting a standing desk and has an option for a cpu holder but it's way too small, I reckon the desk is big enough to sit the pc on the desk which will help loads with the cables. Then thinking about the weight of the pc and how that will effect the desk with it being sat in the top right corner of the it over time.

I'm only looking at the mobo with the case because Why_Me suggested it with the cpu, and idk what to look for in a mobo and how much to spend for it. I use ethernet and currently use both front usb ports and at most 4 at the back. I also use a usb mic and use the jack on my speakers for headset.
