I am trying to upgrade from my A6-6420K APU to an X4-880K CPU. When I put the new CPU in i get no display. I have a discrete GPU installed already but still no display. My specs are as follows:
Win 10 Pro x64

X-Strike 1100W 80+ Gold, PSU
ASRock FM2A68M-HD+, MOBO
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6Gb Mini OC, GPU
12Gb Ram @1600 Mhz, RAM
AMD A6-6420K APU (Currently), Trying to go to AMD X4-880K CPU, APU/CPU
All drivers, Utilities and Bios updated to the latest versions available.

Please Help!

Did you plug the cables into the gpu?

Could you help me with the steps on what i should do in the bios? I am Tech aware so i know how to safely change bios setting just not sure which ones i should change?

Yeah all cables plugged and double check and ram too etc all basic troubleshooting done

Another thing, did you make sure to update the bios on your board? I once had an older am2 board that had bios updates that allowed it to accept athlon 2 quads. A very nice member on here actually had the needed update file and passed along to me, which was wonderful due to the fact the newer updates on the motherboard manufacturer's website didn't work with the cpu I'd purchased. Using the file from the member here I got another year or 2 from that board and quad cpu though.

Anyway, check to see if you need a bios update perhaps.

As i stated in my question everything has been updated including the latest bios update from the ASRock website and i flashed it from the bios directly with no issues

In case it wasn't mentioned, since you did update your bios, it likely reset your settings. Plug your monitor into the onboard graphics port of your board, and follow the instructions from page 45 of the manual cited above, which should show how to set your graphics to the video card as primary.

I updated the settings after the bios update but am unable to get into bios when the new CPU is installed as my MOBO does not have onboard graphics without an APU being in.

hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm

ok so back to what ohiou stated. is the pc posting and not giving any video or is it not even posting? might be looking at what he suggested is incompatible cpu with the board/bios.

if it is posting and no video, then might be gpu that is not compatible. seem to recall the new gen nvidia cards not likely certain BIOS settings but i'd have to look that up again as been a while since i have looked into it.

I am not sure if it posting as it does not have a speaker connected and i do not have a spare one. The manufacturer's website and this other website both say it is supported so long as i have a discrete GPU which i do have.

Ok no worries. As you can see i have done all, if not, most of my homework on this combo and i just don't understand why it wont work.

yah sounds like you've done a good job searching it out already. did you look for any issues with your specific mobo/gpu/cpu combo?

sometimes there are just random issues with a specific combo for no real reason. is where i'm looking right now just in case

Yeah i have tried searching up the combo and it seems to be all good to work together but there is no concrete solutions so far about my particular 1060 with 880k combo. 🙁

I have been thinking about doing that but i cannot find a copy of the older bios firmware it is compatible with the earliest being P1.60 my current version is P2.00

Ok will do i will see how the change in bios goes if it doesn't or hopefully does work i will let you all know thanks and ill be back a little bit later to tell my findings.

I posted new thread about old bios version and someone found me it. I tried it out and flashed it with no issues but still the same problem. I also double checked my ram too and adjusted the settings in bios before putting in the new CPU and still nothing. I checked online for part compatibility and it is all compatible. I think it might not be posting as I only get a solid power led and no hdd led. I also felt the new CPU after installing and it is warm to touch but not hot. The CPU is second hand but has a testing cert with it from my computer store so I got no idea now
