I am trying to upgrade from my A6-6420K APU to an X4-880K CPU. When I put the new CPU in i get no display. I have a discrete GPU installed already but still no display. My specs are as follows:
Win 10 Pro x64

X-Strike 1100W 80+ Gold, PSU
ASRock FM2A68M-HD+, MOBO
Gigabyte GTX 1060 6Gb Mini OC, GPU
12Gb Ram @1600 Mhz, RAM
AMD A6-6420K APU (Currently), Trying to go to AMD X4-880K CPU, APU/CPU
All drivers, Utilities and Bios updated to the latest versions available.

Please Help!

Unfortunately it did not come with any warranties so I can't return the CPU. I tested it on my brothers board which is similar to mine ASRock FM2A68M-DG3+ and it works fine on that he also has a 1060 as well. Our old PC's were Christmas gifts

I would love to do that but i don't have a spare PC to use in the meantime while i wait for god knows how many months it may take to sell as there are already tons of those parts on e-bay already.

Another way out could be something like this.

Pop in your PSU, extra ram and gpu. I think Windows 7 to 10 upgrades are still working as well. Then you could sell the other parts and have a pc. You might look and see if you can find an i5 at a decent price on amazon as well, but for 120, that seems like an ok deal.

Found a better deal on ebay, gives an idea what's out there.

Looks like old i7 boxes can be found for 155 + about 20 dollars shipping as well.

Sorry but there is one big flaw with that idea... I live in Australia and newegg and amazon don't generally ship here. Also that e-bay listing says Does not ship to Australia

I think i might as well just spend that sort of money on getting a MOBO that suits this setup i am going for i also prefer AMD processors as they come factory unlocked clock multiplier on almost any of their processors

I can't say I blame you. Only thing I would caution is that with that board and your Athlon CPU, you are upgrading into a dead platform. So your next upgrade would need to be full upgrade of board, cpu and ram. It's just hard to recommend that you sink that much into a board for a platform that's not going anywhere. But you already have the cpu, and if you can't return it, then that's where you are at I guess.

I guess in this case, get the board, and then sell the old board and old cpu, save those funds, and try to save more toward a Ryzen system later. Trust me, I jumped from an FX 6300 to a Ryzen 5 1600, what a difference. It's like 40-50% stronger in single thread applications It costs a little to get on the platform due to the cost of ram board and cpu, but once you are set, then it's not bad. Plus you already have a 1060, even with a Ryzen 1200, I bet that thing would scream if you overclock a Ryzen 3 1200.

Yeah i agree, i have been thinking about a ryzen system but i am on a tight budget as i am on Centrelink which maybe you might call it welfare or something like that.

Btw, found this site.

http://thebottlenecker.com/

I plugged in your new cpu and a gtx 1060 3gb. They said that there would be a slight bottleneck. So if you don't have one already, try to grab a decent cpu cooler and overclock the athlon as much as possible(safely), that should lessen a potential bottleneck situation.

I will consider that too. Thanks for your advice.

What would you say about this PC btw keep in mind it is in Australian Dollars

Some to ask about

This one isn't great but better than your dual core

This one looks better

I'd say the last one is best for performance. In terms of looks, I have the case as the first one, very easy to work in. But the last one is the best for performance imo. Just swap your parts into it, or the stuff into your case.

When i get more phone credit i will give ASRock a call or e-mail if i can and see what they can do, if anything at all, to help. In the meantime i am purely relying on the kindness of strangers and the help and insight that they may be able to give me.
