Should I upgrade from Amd phenom ii x6 1100t Black Edition to Intel Core i7 4770K? Is it worth it?
I am playing games such as BF4 and ArmA 3, and I think my CPU is the bottleneck in my system.

If I decide to upgrade, I know I need a new motherboard as well, so I'll probably go all in and by new RAM as well. What kind do you think I should choose?

Right now, I get around 40 FPS with ultra settings in BF4. It is playable, but I want to have at least 60.

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1100t Black Edition
GPU: Asus ROG Matrix HD 7970 Platinum 3GB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB CL9
MB: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX, Socket-AM3+

Why go Intel? The 8350 will get you to 60 FPS no problem, and you can save money by not buying a new MB and RAM.

EDIT: With the money saved, you could probably pick up an extra 7970 Platinum to CF and get some ridiculous performance :)

I'm not sure. My brother has the 8350, and he's getting between 50 and 60, and that's not really what I want. Also, if I buy an Intel, I won't have to upgrade it for the next few years

The 4770k doesn't provide better than a minimum 50 FPS either, just like the 8350...

Also, what makes you think you'd have to upgrade the 8350?

If you have AMD Overdrive, you can compare the activity of your CPU when compared to your GPU, and see how badly your CPU may be bottlenecking.

If it is bottlenecking, why not invest in an aftermarket cooler and make an attempt at overclocking? The cooler can be used for whatever next build you may have in mind, and it would probably be cheaper than an overhaul of your rig.

According to most of the performance tests I've read, they all state that the i7 4770k performs better.

As for gaming, the general rule is that intel performs best..

Yeah, I tried that. The GPU reaches about 50%, when the CPU hits 100.
I already have an aftermarket cooler (H60), and I've tried to OC the CPU to 4,3 GHz, but with no effect whatsoever in the game :/

Erm...that's the old guard talking. In the newest games (say, from Crysis 3 and going forward) they are basically equal.

As far as FPS from 4770k vs. 8350 goes: the 8350 and 4770k have exactly the same minimum FPS...the 4770k has a higher average FPS. However, when the 8350 is already at an average of 61, and your monitor only allows you to see 60 FPS anyway...what's the point of more? There isn't a point to it...

However, adding a second 7970 platinum with an 8350 may raise your minimum FPS to the point that you never dip below 60 FPS. Which achieves your goal better than adding a CPU that won't guarantee a minimum of 60 FPS.

Well.. As I said in my first post, I play other games as well. And in ArmA III, I dont think the amd will prove better, seeing it is a very CPU heavy game. So im not really sure what to buy here

I agree with 8350rocks. If you got the money to burn then get a 8350 and second 7970. If you want bare minimal spend then just get 8350. Just go Intel when socket AM3+ is outdated. If you want Intel anyway you probably shouldn't have asked opinions.

I'd also recommend 8350, if you go intel you'll get a little more performance for a LOT more cost since you'd have to get the new MB and everything.

You do seem to have made up your mind already though...

Actually wondering the same thing myself. I've got :

Mobo : Asrock 890FX Deluxe4
CPU : AMD Phenom II 1100T @ 3.4ghz
GPU : Radeon 6950 DDR5 2GB
RAM : GSkill Ripjaws 16gb kit @ 1600mhz (stock is 1866, the 1100t and the motherboard do not like overclocking together at all, so it's throttling down to 1600)

I have my eyes set on a FX- 9570 with a Asus or a gigabyte Motherboard, AMD Radeon RAM, a 280x, a live stream card and a better soundcard.
Anyone think I should go for it or just upgrade my GPU? My frame rates in Battlefield 4 right now are apalling on low settings, or even on Ultra settings with AA turned off. Running on a single monitor too when I play.

Ok Guy's first off once you go 6 cores and over 3.0 gigs your flying
To improve speed by serious amounts is first 16 gigs of ram .
Top Video card for new killer games!
But the most important thing people forget is for speed is the HEART of your PC.
Running Hard drive in Raid 0 as one drive improves loading by double speeds and editing increases speeds for faster time!
Running 2 SSD's in raid 0 or 2 Raptor 10K's in Raid 0 will blow your socks off.
Leave your top CPU's alone. No need to upgrade.
