upgrade from ati 9800pro to gainward 7800gs 512 agp

hi,

i'm thinking of upgrading my 9800pro to a Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800GS Silent 512MB GDDR3 AGP.

will it make a difference on games like CSS or call of duty. right now i'm getting a lot of slow down on high detail, and some slow down on medium.

my systems specs are:

socket a (barton 3200+)
2GB ram
160gb sata HD
ATI 128mb 9800pro

i want to keep agp for now cos when the amd64 m2 boards come out (and vista) or intels conroe cpu's i will be doing a proper upgrade (once the dust settles and we have a clear winner between amd and intels conroe and vista has ironed out dx10)

I dont know where your from but here in the uk for the price of a 7800gs 512 I can get a pci motherboard and a X1800xt or a 7900gt which you can then use in your new system or sell on, where as the 7800gs will be obsolete in your new system and harder to sell.
Just a thought because I was going to do the same thing, hope it helps.

As for the 9800 to 7800GT, the difference will be major.

i was thinking of going pci-express with a new board and chip; but i am too lazy. i dont want to format my HD, i cant be asked to sell my old stuff. i will be easier just to buy a agp card.

if i upgrade now then in a year and a halfs time the 939 board will be obsolete and the cpu will be be obsolete (if i was going to buy a new cpu now it would be a amd64 3200).

and if i buy a pci express GPU now i wouldnt want it on my new system when i upgrade in a years time anyway.

The gainward 7800gs 512 agp should last me a year if its as fast as you say.

Anyone got any links in how to over clock it? ive read that i can get 20% more fps when its overclocked.

How well does the AGP perform on your board? Most boards I've seen have bad reviews for the AGP's speed.

The card I have isnt available in PCIE you fucking fucking, so the AGP speed is the only one you can go by :roll:

The Asrock 939dual-SATA2 has no performance penalty with either AGP or PCIe.

It's fairly unique in that. The ULI chipset it uses wasn't jury-rigged to get it to work, it was made with inherent AGP/PCIe capability.

I upgraded from a 9800 Pro AIW 128MB to a BFG 7800GS and the difference is H U G E. I dont know about the Gainward but from all the reviews it is the new AGP king.
