Upgrade from i5 4690 to i7 4790

I have a rtx 2070 and want to upgrade should I rather spend more to get the K version

The i7 4790K is a very good processor. You can get the K version if the price is right and you have the z series motherboard that can overclock the unlocked K CPUs.

Don't spend more than 10% extra money than the cost of i7 4790.

would it be a good upgrade from the i5 4690 to a i7 4790k? If I pair it with a rtx 2070

You will see very good improvements when upgrading from i5 to i7. Approx 50%, which is a very good improvement when you have a heavy card like the 2070. The i7 4690K is approx 60% better than the i5 4690.

Mind that the i7 4790k does not come with cooler. You must be buying the used CPU, so just check for good CPU cooler too.

I play at 1080p and 1440p but more than often 1080p

I was thinking of getting watercooling with this cpu but I have no idea how it works do you have to change the liquid often or how does it work?

There are AIO liquid coolers available on the market. Usually these liquid coolers last 4years or so. After which usually the pump fails. Plus there's also risk of leaking coolant fluid.

If you have a roomy PC case, get the air coolers. They are much better and only maintenance that you need is dusting.

You also have to learn to OC the 4790K.
